Span Changeout/Bridge Slide; Drilled Shaft Installation/Concrete Substructure; Steel Assembly; Temporary Bridge
Removal and replacement of the existing 450-foot double-track bridge with a new 535-foot, five-span, double-track bridge in the same location. The new bridge includes a 272-foot-through steel truss weighing 800 tons. Assembly of the new truss occurred on-site; it was then moved into position adjacent to the existing bridge using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs). The project also involved installing new intermediate bents with drilled shaft foundations 11 feet in diameter. The bridge changeout was executed in 36 hours.
