Rehabilitation of Swing Span Bridge
Railroad Bridge Construction & Emergency Response
Feature of Work: Emergency Repair; Drilled Shaft Installation; Temporary Falsework Design and Installation: Steel Repair

Replacement of the center pivot pier foundation for a 295-foot-long railroad swing span weighing approximately 700 tons. This repair was necessary due to the existing masonry bent settling 6 inches and shifting 12 inches. The project involved installing six 120-foot long, 8-foot diameter drilled shafts and temporary falsework designed for a 1,500-ton load. OCCI demolished the old pier and relocated the entire swing span onto its new foundation within a single 18-day navigation outage of the Ouachita River. The bridge's load-carrying capacity was also upgraded by reinforcing the truss members. OCCI maintained live rail traffic for our client throughout the project.
