This contract consisted of a complete rehabilitation of the Lift Span operating equipment, including machinery, electrical, and controls equipment, as well as the installation of pier scour protection and some structural steel repairs. The operating equipment that was replaced includes: four counterweight sheave assemblies, forty-eight counterweight wire ropes, machinery brake, main drive motor and motor brake, two span locks, and two span guides. OCCI also performed various repairs to the existing machinery including the auxiliary drive gearbox and uphaul rope deflector sheaves. All the original electrical and controls equipment were completely replaced, including the bridge main power service and electrical distribution equipment, aerial power and controls cables, VFD for the main motor, PLC based operating system, CCTV cameras, boat detection system, and lighting. Most of the new machinery and electrical equipment was replaced during a single eighteen-day river navigation outage. OCCI also replaced four truss span bearings and the longitudinal span guides during separate, shorter, rail outages.
