OCCI subcontracted and collaborated closely with Superior Lidgerwood Mundy and the USACE – Rock Island District to design and build custom roller gate hoists for dam infrastructure modernization. These hoists were engineered to meet ANSI and ASME standards and featured high-torque electric motors, enclosed gear reduction units, and corrosion-resistant materials suitable for harsh outdoor environments. Each hoist assembly included dual-drum configurations with wire rope systems capable of lifting gate loads exceeding 40,000 lbs per drum, integrated with programmable limit switches and redundant braking systems for fail-safe operation.
On site, OCCI, with support from an electrical subcontractor, removed the existing gate hoisting machinery, counterweights, and outdated power and control systems. Following site cleanup and repainting of the existing structural steel, the new hoists were installed with upgraded power supplies and digital control interfaces. These systems included PLC-based automation, remote operation capabilities, and environmental protection rated enclosures (IP67 or higher) to ensure reliability in flood-prone and high-moisture conditions. After just a couple of months, the new gate hoists were successfully commissioned, with representatives from Superior Lidgerwood Mundy and the USACE in attendance to validate performance and operational readiness.
