OCCI, under contract with LADOTD, executed a complex overlay and rehabilitation project on the 2.15-mile-long I-20 Mississippi River Bridge at Vicksburg, spanning both Louisiana and Mississippi. The main scope involved removing the top 1.5 inches of the deck via milling and hydro-demolition, then replacing it with a latex-modified concrete overlay. Crucially, the project included bridge jacking to replace slide bearings and perform structural repairs to various truss members. OCCI utilized innovative methods, such as assembling and pulling a new 3,200-foot inspection walkway down the length of the bridge and designing a custom lifting jib to safely replace aerial beacon components over 200 feet above the river. Furthermore, OCCI redesigned the inspection walkway handrail to be a lighter, pinned pipe system, which provided significant cost savings while still meeting OSHA standards. All work, including the complete replacement of electrical systems, navigation lighting, and traffic cameras, was successfully accomplished while maintaining traffic flow with never more than one of the four lanes closed at any time.
