Emergency Substructure Repair; Pile Driving; Barge Work
In the wake of record floods on the Brazos River, OCCI responded with 24/7 forces when a bridge pier, previously on land, settled by two feet when flood waters eroded and undercut the footing. Installing temporary falsework, a trestle, and a new steel pier cap, train traffic was restored in 16 working days. Shortly after, a similar issue at the 2nd pier located in the river and supporting two spans required our return. Working off floating barge plants, pile templates were welded in the field and installed to support a new center pier poured in place, while supporting the bridge to prevent failure. Train traffic resumed after only 23 days of interruption.
