OCCI executed a critical rehabilitation project on the Pensacola Dam's multiple-arch buttress structure, which carries Highway 28 across the Grand River. The major work items included the complete removal and replacement of all bridge bearings, extensive concrete substructure repair(spall and crack repair), and the installation of Carbon Fiber Reinforcement on the substructure. Additionally, OCCI performed comprehensive repairs to the bridge deck before installing a new concrete overlay. Due to the required full road closure, the contract mandated OCCI design and install a single-span detour bridge downstream specifically for emergency response vehicles.
Facing significant working height challenges, OCCI custom-designed, fabricated, and erected a launching scaffold system that covered multiple spans to efficiently access and replace the 51 bridge bearings. This scaffold was specially designed to be lowered after launching to reach the required working elevation. To maintain the demanding project schedule, the bridge substructure and deck work proceeded concurrently with the challenging bearing replacement.
